No SR20 because driving, but I saw two cars pulled over on the side of the highway. One driver was helping another driver change a flat tire, while the other driver watched . One car was a state trooper.
But it was exactly the opposite of what you’re picturing in your head right now.

It’s not as weird to me because of my experience a couple years back. I blew a tire on the interstate and pulled over to examine. I got out and was fully prepared to start changing the tire, because I’m stubborn that way when I get pissed. The following people stopped to help in rapid succession: A state trooper, an off duty state trooper, a couple of guys who may or may not have known how to change a tire but never got the chance, and the highway roadside assistance truck, who actually did the work of putting on the spare. Everyone else kind of stood around waiting to see if they could do anything and finally drove off when they saw I was alright.
This was a sunny Sunday in Dallas. I was pretty happy with the charity of the human race that afternoon.

That’s pretty nice. It’s nice to hear that people can be decent and kind — and they generally are, really.
This was weird because it was the *trooper* who had the flat, and someone else (driver of a random SUV, think it was an X3 or something) was changing the tire while the trooper stood guard looking out for traffic.
Not a bad idea really - the trooper is a pro at that, and it’s probably best that the trooper doesn’t have their head down on the side of the road. But a little odd to see.

I know, right?
That said, I could see it being a safety issue. The trooper was standing guard watching for traffic - - and it’s probably best that the trooper didn’t have their head down on the side of the road. Who knows what assholes are out there.

Once upon a time I had to do a property inspection of an undeveloped site in the snow on crutches because I broke my (left) foot the day before . As I was heading back to my rental car to leave no fewer than 3 guys in pickups pulled over to make sure I was ok and hadn’t broken down. Sometimes humanity redeems itself.

For sure. In fact, I crashed out pretty hard on my bike ride tonight, and no fewer than a half dozen people stopped to try and help, of all ages.
I also try to help people with flats, etc. to pay it forward. It’s so easy to get depressed about the horrible things in the world, but it’s nice to remember that people are good.

I once had a flat on my lifted stepside chevy going from Flagstaff to Boulder, right in the middle of nowhere on the Navajo rez. A Navajo gentleman who looked like he was 90 stopped to help me, he never said one word and I didn’t have the heart to refuse him. We both did some work and we went on our way.

over here some basic car maintenance is part of the theory test you have to pass before being allowed to take lessons and take the practical driving test
so everyone on the road here should know how to change a tire safely...
course most drivers immediately forge t everything they learnt once they pass the test

The trooper is there to watch for traffic and the sleeping truckers out there. His bright and shiney lights tend to get attention.....

The trooper’s car was the one with the flat tire. And the trooper was watching a private citizen change the tire on the police car . It’s that last bit that seemed a bit odd.
Broad daylight, so no lights, but I would think it’s a little safer for the trooper to be the one watching over traffic, since they’re a pro at that. I’m curious how the citizen ended up on the side of the road with the cop though.
